Tire Repair clinic

tire.jpg

In October 2008 Adventure Trailers gave a tire repair clinic at the Expedition Trophy, a competitive and educational event put on by the Overland Society. The clinic provided the participants the opportunity to get hands on experience with the tools and equipment, as well as learning about tire construction.

We hope to be able to share with you some of that information and allow you to become more familiar with the tools before you need them in the field.

Preparation: We consider preparation to be the most important part of the whole clinic. Do you want to be able to do a full field repair including removing the tire from the rim, perform a repair, and re-mounting it to the rim? Or do you want to be able to plug a simple puncture? What ever you decide upon, get the tools you need and practice with them in you back yard before you head into the field. Get an old tire and rim from your local tire repair shop and we'll walk you through the process.

This online clinic is divided into two parts:
1. Major tire repair, requiring the bead to be broken
2. Minor tire repair, plugging tread and sidewall punctures, not requiring the bead to be broken.

None of these repairs should be considered permanent. All repairs are for temporary field repair only. We recommend that all tires repaired in the field be taken to your local tire repair shop for evaluation and repair.
